This project in Galveston designed to diminish storm surge volumes entering the bay, offering direct protection against storm surges for communities residing on the barrier island…
Get this—the Boulevard road skate system is going to be a beast. We're talking a two-mile-long structure between the Boulevard Peninsula and Galveston, and it’s got a whopping $31.2 billion price tag. This multi-gate project is set to protect Houston and the surrounding areas from those nasty storm surges.
The coolest part? It's got different types of gates that stay open unless there's a tropical storm threat. We’re talking vertical lift gates, deep draft navigational gates for ships, and shallow water environmental gates to keep our marine life happy. Once finished, this project could prevent $2 billion in flood damage every single year.
